Warrington
Wolves IMBRL 10 After a week without a fixture Warrington returned to action hopeful of completing a league double over Adlington Rangers “A”. Both clubs had originally met back in September when IMBRL returned from Rangers with an impressive 18-58 victory, their first ever in North West Counties rugby league. However six months on Rangers arrived at Hood Lane with a much stronger side which was clearly bolstered by a string of division one players with Adlington’s first team game against Ashton Bears postponed. Despite this, IMBRL still remained confident and went into the contest with a strong side which included John Williams who returned from his broken hand injury sustained against Rylands. Meanwhile new forward signing Chris Green made his debut from the bench. In the early stages both sides were locked in an arm wrestle and after Rangers had opened the scoring IMBRL then went into a solid lead. Karl Case got the scoring underway as he outpaced the Rangers full-back to a loose ball to finish off an opportunity that had been carved out by Andy Hawley following a fine piece of mid-field play. Hawley failed to convert the effort but was successful with the conversion when Neil Ashurst finished off a fine handing move under the sticks. Leading 10-4 IMBRL were good value on the fast track but two tries for the visitors before half-time gave the Rangers a 10-14 advantage. Boosted by their greater experience Adlington then powered home in the second-half to score 20 unanswered points that saw them take the spoils in a thoroughly enjoyable game played in great spirits. On the day when both clubs remained 11th and 12th in division 6 the Wolves were once again best served by South African prop Jawaad Adonis. Wolves:
Liam O'Brien, Gareth Edwards, Stephen Lenihan, Jonathan Knight, Tom Mahoney,
Andy Hawley, Karl Case, John Williams, Mark Moore, Jawaad Adonis, Neil
Ashurst, Nat Ashurst, Jon Westwood. Subs: Rick
Lenihan, Steve Brown, Danny Elliott, Chris Green. |
